BIM Design Engineer
Become a BIM Design Engineer: own full-discipline MEP modeling, clash detection, deepening drawings, and on-site support — delivering constructible, clash-free projects.
Position Overview:
Responsible for full-discipline MEP BIM modeling, mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) coordination and deepening, clash detection, deepening drawing production, and on-site construction technical support for project work.
This role requires strong MEP drawing comprehension, spatial analysis capability, and site construction experience. The candidate must be able to independently complete MEP modeling, system coordination optimization, deepened drawing output, and issue resolution based on construction drawings, design standards, and actual site conditions — ensuring deepening outputs are fully constructible and reducing on-site clashes and rework.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create full-discipline MEP BIM models covering plumbing & drainage, HVAC, high/low-voltage electrical, fire protection, ventilation, and civil defense systems, and integrate them with architectural and structural models.
• Carry out MEP system coordination, layout optimization, and clash detection based on construction drawings, design codes, project BIM standards, and actual site conditions.
• Use Navisworks and similar tools to run multi-discipline clash detection; compile clash issues and produce clash reports, issue logs, and resolution proposals.
• Deliver detailed MEP deepening design for key areas such as plant/equipment rooms, service shafts, corridors, basements, and equipment floors — optimizing pipe/duct elevations, installation sequencing, maintenance clearances, and space utilization.
• Optimize MEP pipework/ductwork, equipment bases, valves and fittings, maintenance access, and support/hanger layouts based on actual site conditions, improving constructability and reducing rework.
• Produce project BIM deepening deliverables, including but not limited to: MEP composite layout drawings; single-discipline deepening drawings; embedment/preset drawings; MEP deepening construction drawings; sections and detail drawings; equipment room deepening drawings; clash detection reports; quantity take-off lists; and construction technical briefing materials.
• Coordinate with design institutes, clients, supervising engineers, main contractors, MEP subcontractors, and site crews on drawing review meetings, technical Q&A, solution discussions, and deepening result presentations.
• Adjust models and deepening drawings promptly based on stakeholder feedback, track issue resolution, and drive final confirmation and on-site implementation of deepening solutions.
• Follow up on-site during construction, promptly resolving cross-discipline conflicts, insufficient headroom, pipe/duct clashes, equipment installation, and construction space issues as they arise.
• Provide BIM technical support to the construction site, adjusting models, revising drawings, and optimizing technical solutions based on actual site conditions.
• Maintain BIM models, manage version control, file naming, and documentation/archiving, ensuring model and drawing versions are accurate, complete, and traceable.
• Support project BIM deliverable acceptance, project awards/recognition submissions, technical summaries, document reporting/approval, and as-built model handover.
• Collaborate with architecture, structural, and other discipline designers on multi-discipline coordinated design, implementing project BIM technical standards, modeling standards, and delivery requirements.
• Complete other deepening design and technical support tasks as assigned by the BIM Team Leader or Project Manager.
Requirements:
• Diploma or above in Building Services Engineering, Plumbing & Drainage, HVAC, Electrical, MEP Engineering, Building Environment & Energy Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5+ years of experience in MEP deepening design, BIM MEP modeling, or MEP construction.
• Familiar with plumbing & drainage, HVAC, high/low-voltage electrical, and fire protection/ventilation systems; able to read and understand architectural, structural, and MEP construction drawings.
• Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of Glodon quantity take-off, Fuzor, Lumion, or other BIM application/visualization tools is a plus.
• Familiar with local MEP design codes, fire protection design codes, construction quality acceptance standards, and related technical standards.
• Familiar with on-site MEP installation methods, construction workflows, cross-discipline interfaces, and common site issues, ensuring deepening solutions are practically constructible.
• Able to independently complete MEP modeling, system coordination, clash detection and resolution, deepening design, and construction drawing output.
• Able to independently communicate and coordinate technical issues with clients, design institutes, supervising engineers, main contractors, subcontractors, and site crews.
• Strong spatial reasoning, drawing recognition, technical analysis, and problem-solving ability.
• Meticulous, responsible, with strong execution, communication, teamwork, and resilience under pressure.
• Willing to be based on-site, provide on-site technical support, and travel short-term as required by the project.
